Power Surge is a new project fronted by singer/ multi-instrumentalist Roko and guitarist Srdjan, both tireless enthusiasts who’ve been active in the traditional metal revival of the last 15 years. Roko’s musical milestones include open air concerts supporting Whitesnake, fronting his own band Flesh and being a go-to musician for Croatian sensation Dino Jelusick. Srdjan has spent most of his career rising through the ranks of UK band Primitai most recently leading them to a double appearance at Bloodstock festival and European dates with Enforcer and Firewind, has built a reputation as a reliable and competent live guitarist hired by artists such as Paul Dianno, and has collaborated with Paul Quinn of Saxon.
Power Surge celebrates these musicians’ passion for the golden age of heavy metal with influences ranging from speed metal to AOR. Their brooding first single “Calm Before The Storm” showcases the latter side, Roko’s soulful vocals matched with reverberating clean guitars and crunching riffs, all underpinned by a tight rhythm section that grooves and sways with the mounting tension.
As the song title suggests the follow up releases will pick up the pace and adrenaline as the band gear up for their live debut in September 2024, supporting US power metal legends Fifth Angel on select European dates, one of their personal favourites and major influences.
Drum duties on the debut material have been entrusted to Milan “The Yeqy” Jejina, who comes from a prog metal background and is a highly sought after session drummer on the arena circuit, and a live band featuring several other esteemed colleagues is already in place for the debut concerts.
Guitarist Srdjan comments “Your greatest musical achievements and strongest connections with fans and fellow artists can always be traced back to wearing your heart and influences on your sleeves. Scoring a slot with Fifth Angel on the strength of your first vocal demo is a case in point. We all enjoy carving our own niche but feel equally at home when going back to our musical roots and the genres we’ll always love. We look forward to seeing which stages, bands and music fans we’ll share this journey with – playing alongside one of the original 1980s US power metal pioneers is already a dream start!”
